Its a dream come true for Danny, but things take a turn for the worse when a movie villain gets hold of the ticket and escapes into the real world. Danny and Jack must stop him by travelling to the real world where the bad guys can win.
With the help of a magic ticket, a young film fan is transported into the fictional world of his favorite action film character.
I&#39;m proudly jumping on the &quot;this movie is underrated&quot; bandwagon. It&#39;s also why I&#39;m giving it a 10/10. In all honesty it&#39;s more of a 7/10 flick but it could use the boost. <br/><br/>Where this movie really shines is in its self awareness, satirizing the action movie genre (and Arnie himself) that was so popular during the 80&#39;s and 90&#39;s, using all of its cliches to its advantage. One of the film&#39;s chief writers is Shane Black, the man responsible for almost single-handedly inventing the Lethal Weapon universe (and there are several nods to the franchise throughout the film). Anyone who is familiar with his portfolio (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Nice Guys, Last Boy Scout) knows that the man has a way with words that is authentically funny and smart. <br/><br/>All in all, this film is a lot better than critics and the public gave it credit for when it came out. A seriously hilarious and intentionally over-the-top film that cleverly indulges in its own cinematic self awareness.
In one of the bravest parodies in some time, Shane Black unflinchingly holds an ironic looking glass up to the box office hit machine that made him rich: the action film. It perhaps came a bit early for public consciousness to be ready for it, and so wound up showcasing (in hindsight) more of Black&#39;s prescience than his market savvy.<br/><br/>In an out and out clever spoof of not only the action film industry but of the slavering fans of action, Schwarzenegger is brilliant casting. The fact that he never quite seems to get the tongue-in-cheek aspect of the whole endeavor makes it all the funnier. (The daydream sequence of Hamlet as an action flick is hysterical!) Director John McTiernan (Die Hard, Hunt For Red October) strikes a nice balance between the tension of the plot and the relaxed atmosphere of the spoof. If you saw it before and just didn&#39;t get the thrill ride you were expecting, that&#39;s probably because you were the butt of the big inside joke that was this film. Try it again.

Teenage boy Danny Madigan (Austin O&#39;Brien) attends a private screening of the action film &quot;Jack Slater IV&quot; starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, at a cinema managed by Danny&#39;s friend Nick (Robert Prosky). But, Danny&#39;s ticket magically transports Danny into the movie and meets the film&#39;s fictional title character Jack Slater (Arnold Schwarzenegger) a larger than life Los Angeles police detective and Danny joins Jack, as Jack sets out to settle a score with Mr. Benedict (Charles Dance), the right hand man of mob boss Tony Vivaldi (Anthony Quinn), whom tortured and killed Jack&#39;s cousin Frank (Art Carney). But, Benedict takes possession of Danny&#39;s ticket and enters the real world and Danny and Jack leave the film to go after him and Danny and Jack set out to stop Benedict from assassinating Schwarzenegger at the film&#39;s premiere in New York City, which Benedict believes, if Schwarzenegger dies, there will be no more Jack Slater films. The word was most likely &quot;fuck&quot;.<br/><br/>In movies rated PG-13, films are only allowed to use that particular word or a variant of it once. Twice on rare occasions, depending on context; such as the movie Lakeview Terrace or The Martian. It also could have been &quot;Mother-Fucker&quot; as that variant hasn&#39;t been spoken in a PG-13 film. Interestingly enough, this film only says the word once at the very end of the movie when Slater&#39;s Captain is once again yelling at Slater.<br/><br/>The word may also have been &quot;cunt&quot; as it has never been used in a PG-13 film either.<br/><br/>
